The Meaning
We chose the name Ilan in memory of my mom, Ilene.

Ilan is a Hebrew word which translates in English as tree.
Emet is a Hebrew word which translates in English as truth.

The Sound
The "Il" in Ilan sounds like Iliad as in Iliad and the Odyssey.
The "an" in Ilan sounds like the word wand as in Harry Potter.
Phonetically it is spelled il-ahn

"Emet" has an accent on the "m" unlike the name Emmett.
Phonetically it is spelled e-met

Most likely his name will be mispronounced from time to time
but it's cool we won't be offended. :-)
